Oriental Bar & Kitchen UMAMI by Han Amsterdam is a modern restaurant where you can enjoy a quick business lunch (40 minutes), special teas and coffees, delicious Asiatic finger food, or an extensive 3-course dinner where everyone gets 6 dishes to share.
UMAMI by Han Amsterdam uses fresh ingredients, light dishes and together with the wide variety of fresh juices and tea combinations, this makes a super match with the healthy vision of chef Han Ji.
In addition to sweet, sour, salty and bitter, umami is scientifically recognized as the fifth basic taste. Umami comes from Japanese and literally means "delicious taste". This is because most of the ingredients that contain a high amount of umami are often perceived as 'delicious'.
Umami ingredients are widely used in Chinese cuisines. Think of fresh salmon, soy sauce, rice wine, and mushrooms. It is true that the term is not equally familiar everywhere, but unknowingly we have known the taste for much longer.

Helaas is de bediening aan onze tafel beneden de maat. De menukaart krijgen we niet onder ogen, maar gelijk worden we gevraagd of we extra willen betalen voor 5 gangen in plaats van 4. Het gaat allemaal erg snel in moeilijk verstaanbaar Engels zonder enige vriendelijkheid (geen 'goede avond of andere blijk van gastvrijheid). De wijnkaart is een tablet met een keuzestructuur waar je je met allerlei vragen doorheen moet worstelen. Uiteindelijk blijkt de gekozen fles er niet te zijn! En de keuze überhaupt heel klein te zijn itt wat zo'n tablet suggereert. De gerechten worden steeds snel voor je neus gezet terwijl ondertussen haast onverschillig en onverstaanbaar wordt gezegd wat het is. Wel belangrijk want de menukaart heb je nooit gezien. Kortom, wat betreft eten een aanrader maar de bediening kan professioneler.

The Service was very friendly and attentive, although the lady sometimes had forgotten what some of the ingredients were. My friend is not the greatest fan of fish and at one course, the Service said there’s no fish on the plate, but it was. The food was a great and tasty mix of Asian Fusion with some Dutch elements. It was delicious! (Though we had to be fair and take one star for one dish where the Service gave misinformation about what it was). We will come back for sure!
