Oriental Bar & Kitchen UMAMI by Han Amsterdam is a modern restaurant where you can enjoy a quick business lunch (40 minutes), special teas and coffees, delicious Asiatic finger food, or an extensive 3-course dinner where everyone gets 6 dishes to share.
UMAMI by Han Amsterdam uses fresh ingredients, light dishes and together with the wide variety of fresh juices and tea combinations, this makes a super match with the healthy vision of chef Han Ji.
In addition to sweet, sour, salty and bitter, umami is scientifically recognized as the fifth basic taste. Umami comes from Japanese and literally means "delicious taste". This is because most of the ingredients that contain a high amount of umami are often perceived as 'delicious'.
Umami ingredients are widely used in Chinese cuisines. Think of fresh salmon, soy sauce, rice wine, and mushrooms. It is true that the term is not equally familiar everywhere, but unknowingly we have known the taste for much longer.

We had high expectations, but unfortunately the experience fell short on several points.
The table for this concept is pre-assigned and located in a very uncomfortable spot, right next to the staircase leading to the restrooms. On top of that, the table was far too large for two people, which took away any sense of...
We had high expectations, but unfortunately the experience fell short on several points.
The table for this concept is pre-assigned and located in a very uncomfortable spot, right next to the staircase leading to the restrooms. On top of that, the table was far too large for two people, which took away any sense of intimacy and did not feel like a cozy evening out together.
The food itself was quite underwhelming. Most dishes tasted like they were made with ready-made sauces rather than fresh ingredients, which was disappointing given the concept and price level.
Another major downside was the pace of the service. All three courses were served so quickly that we finished our entire meal within 45 minutes. This made the evening feel rushed rather than relaxed and enjoyable.
The only real positive was the friendly and polite staff, who were doing their best despite the overall experience not meeting expectations.
The staff was amazing, the food full of flavors, didn’t leave feeling hungry.
